Founded in 2024 by eye surgeons Drs. Robert Fintelmann and Wendy Huang. Global Eyecare Academy was established to fill a need in eye care and education.  After providing medical care through other volunteer organizations, Drs. Fintelmann and Huang realized their volunteerism could be more effective by providing the means and framework for long-term care in underserved areas. With that in mind, Global Eyecare Academy was built as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. It’s goals are to partner with local networks, physicians, and organizations to create a low-cost safety net for eyecare in impoverished communities with little access to specialty care. In doing so, our aim is to also provide learning opportunities for healthcare providers and students so they may develop skills to help their communities and careers in medicine.
